Costs of Card and Cash Payments in Denmark - Part 1
A breakdown of payment costs into fixed and variable costs shows that cash is the cheapest payment method for society as a whole for amounts below kr. 29. For larger amounts, the Dankort is the cheapest payment method. This type of breakdown can also be used to calculate the social cost savings of e.g. replacing a given number of cash payments by Dankort payments. Assuming that 25 per cent of all cash payments exceeding kr. 200 were made by Dankort instead, the social costs would be reduced by kr. 145 million annually. The findings are consistent with studies in other countries.
