Christian Kettel Thomsen has been appointed as Governor by Royal Appointment and Chairman of the Board of Governors. With effect from 1 February Christian Kettel Thomsen will replace Lars Rohde, who has chosen to retire at the end of January after 10 years as Chairman of the Board of Governors.

Christian Kettel Thomsen has been appointed by H.M. The Queen on the recommendation of the Minister for Industry, Business and Financial Affairs and Royal Bank-Commissioner, Morten Bødskov, and the government's hiring committee.

Christian Kettel Thomsen holds an MSc in Economics and comes from a position as Vice-President at the European Investment Bank. He has previously been Permanent Secretary of State for the Prime Minister's Office and Permanent Secretary of State for Finance.

"I would like to congratulate Christian with the job. I have known Christian for many years, where he has been a permanent participant in the regular meetings between Danmarks Nationalbank's Board of Governors and changing governments. I know Christian as a very skilled and insightful person, and I am sure he will carry on the baton well. I would also like to use the opportunity to thank the Board of Directors, Committee of Directors and other partners for a good and trustful collaboration," says outgoing Governor Lars Rohde.

In a press release from the Ministry of Industry, Business and Financial Affairs, Christian Kettel Thomsen says:

"I am very much looking forward to taking up the position as Governor. Danmarks Nationalbank is widely respected and consists of many talented employees, with whom I look forward to working together. Danmarks Nationalbank contributes to stable economic development in Denmark, not least through the fixed-exchange-rate policy, by overseeing and assessing financial stability and taking responsibility for efficient and robust payment systems. It will have to be done in collaboration with, authorities and the financial sector, among others," says Christian Kettel Thomsen.
