The future of Danish cash
Last chance nearing for banknotes that will become invalid. After 31 May 2025 a number of older banknotes and the 1000-krone banknote from the current series will no longer be legal tender . Cash is needed in Denmark – and it also be needed in the future. Therefore, Denmark will have new banknotes from 2028-2029.

What can I do after the banknotes become invalid?
After 31 May 2025, Danmarks Nationalbank's three banknote exchange points in Aarhus, Odense and Copenhagen in collaboration with FOREX will be the only way to exchange banknotes that will become invalid.
New banknotes
Denmark will get new banknotes in 2028-2029 to ensure that cash remains a safe and efficient means of payment in the future. Motifs of important achievements and the sea will adorn the new banknotes.
